Here is a fine specimen of Lituites littuus from the Ordovician of China. This nautiloid starts off in a coiled pattern and then straightens out. This cephalopod is very 3-dimensionally preserved and exhibits good detail. The straight-line sutures are easily seen and the individual body chambers are quite evident. The specimen has nice white color and very good contrast. The fossil is nicely centered on the rectangular block of matrix that has been semi-polished to make it more attractive. This is a very aesthetic specimen of this strange semi-coiled nautiloid.
