This is a very collectible stromatolite slab from the Precambrian of Australia. It is a striking plate of Ephyalpes edingunnensis. Authorities believe that stromatolites were formed by masses of green or blue-green algae, or ''cyanobacteria''. It is believed that this stromatolite is 1.8 billion years old! This striking slab has been highly polished on one side for optimal display. The unique depositional pattern of the stromatolite is beautifully showcased, and the different shades of the mineral replacement are quite noticeable. This is an excellent example of this very uncommon stromatolite from Down Under.
