This is a very distinct stromatolite slab from the Precambrian of Russia. Authorities believe that stromatolites were formed by masses of green or blue-green algae, or ''cyanobacteria''. This particular stromatolite has been dated to billions of years old! This extremely detailed specimen has been highly polished on one side for optimal display. The unique pattern of the columnar stromatolites is beautifully showcased, and the different shades of the mineral replacement are quite striking. The detailed structure is extremely well displayed. This is a very cool example of this rare and distinct stromatolite from Russia.
