This is a beautiful specimen of a stromatolite. This is large slab of Conophyton sp. from the Precambrian of Bolivia. Authorities believe that stromatolites were formed by masses of green or blue-green algae, or ''cyanobacteria''. It is believed that this stromatolite is 2.2 to 2.4 billion years old! This distinct slice of stromatolite has been highly polished on one side for optimal display. The layered depositional pattern of the stromatolite is wonderfully displayed. The different colors and unique pattern make for a striking specimen. This is a collectible example of a classic stromatolite from an unusual location.
