This is an excellent fossil feather from the Eocene of Utah. Bird remains are quite rare in the fossil record - even solitary feathers are very uncommon. This large feather exhibits extraordinary detail - the individual filiments are very apparent. The fossil has excellent natural, dark-brown color and contrasts beautifully with the khaki-colored matrix. The feather is wonderfully showcased on the natural plate of shale that also contains a leaf, a seed, and FOUR mosquitoes preserved just to the left of the feather! This is a top quality specimen of an extremely scarce fossil feather and other fossils from the Green River Formation.
