Here is an extremely nice plate of fossil insects. This is a large Cranefly (Tipulidae) and other insects from the Eocene of Utah. The detail of the beast is very easily seen. Under magnification, the eyes and the long body are quite impressive. This Cranefly has good color and contrast and is nicely positioned on the natural plate of shale that also contains about a dozen other insects. This is a very fine example of a fossil cranefly and other insects from the Green River Shale.
