This is an extremely rare fossil. It is a large Insect Wing from the Pennsylvanian of Missouri. This specimen was found at the site that is well known for fossil fern concretions - fossils other than ferns are rare and very sought-after. Occasionally, pieces or parts of small insects are found, but a wing preserved this well is quite rare! The detail of the wing is simply amazing - the venation is very easily seen. The fossil is very 3-D and displays well in the large, oval concretion. Hundreds of fern concretions are found before something this special is unearthed. And remember, this Insect Wing is Pennsylvanian - 300 million years old - MUCH older than most fossil insects! This is a very distinct Paleozoic insect fossil from the ''Coal Age'' of Missouri.
