This is a very unusual plant fossil. It is a large fossilized tree root (Stigmaria) from Iowa. This specimen was found years ago and in a collection until now. The root is extremely three-dimensional and is so detailed, it still retains the small rootlet attachment points! This is great example of an uncommon tree fossil from the Coal Age of Iowa.
