This is a museum quality example of a classic Solnhofen fossil. It is a very detailed ventral Mesolimulus walchi Horseshoe Crab from the world-renowned Solnhofen Beds of Germany. This special specimen was acquired from the famous Chance Collection. Horseshoe crabs and dragonflies are probably the most sought-after fossils from this site - and most fossils this nice are entrenched in museums or collections. This ventral (concave) specimen is absolutely fabulous - the meticulous preparation showcases the near-perfect preservation of the crab. The distinct crab is complete and quite large for the type. And the extinct crustacean displays beautifully on the large, natural plate of lithographic limestone. This is a stunning ventral example of one of the most collectible animals found at Solnhofen.
