Here is a wonderful vertebrate fossil. It is a complete paw from the extinct Russian Cave Bear, Ursus uralensis. Cave Bears were the largest members of the bear family and the chief animal hunted by Neanderthal man. Cave Bear material is becoming more difficult to obtain as most of the caves have been discovered and collected out. This is a large rear paw with all the digits intact - even the claws are present. The bones have been internally wired together for optimal display, and strength and stability. This is a very showy and displayable specimen from this extinct Ice Age Bear - a great conversation piece.
