Here is a fine molar tooth from an extinct Cave Bear. This is from the bear, Ursus uralensis, found in the Cave Deposits of Russia. Cave bears were the largest member of the bear family and the chief animal hunted by Neandertal Man. Cave bear material is becoming harder to obtain as the old caves have been heavily collected and are producing very little new material. This molar exhibits very little wear. The shiny enamel is well preserved, and the cusps of the tooth are in great condition. The long roots of the tooth are wonderfully intact. This is an excellent tooth from this large Ice Age mammal.
