Specimen SSS933
This is an amazing multiple trilobite plate. It is a plate of THIRTEEN Onnia superba from the Ordovician of Morocco. This specimen was meticulously prepared under a microscope in the EXTINCTIONS Prep Lab here in Colorado. There are 13 examples of this Trinucleid trilobite on the slab, and all are fully complete (hard to see that in the photo). The trilobites are wonderfully articulated and exhibit excellent detail. The pitted cephalic borders are quite distinct, and the thin genal spines are easily seen. The dark brown color of the trilobites contrasts superbly with the light-colored matrix. The bugs are beautifully showcased on the sculpted plate of limestone. And best of all, this slab is not composited - all of the trilobites are natural to the plate. This is an extremely high concentration of Onnia trilobites on one rock - a museum-quality example of trilobite mass mortality.
