Specimen SSS909
This is a bizarre spiny trilobite. It is a Kingaspis sp. from Morocco. This specimen was prepared in the EXTINCTIONS Prep Lab here in Colorado, as are ALL of our Moroccan trilobites. This is one of the only trilobites we know of that has forward pointing spines. Instead of a defensive feature, these spines may have been used for attack! This type of trilobite is often ''created'' by the Moroccan handycrafters, adding fake spines to make more common types of trilobites to look like this rare type. This specimen is complete with both spines intact. And, yes, THE SPINES ARE REAL! They have been prepared free-standing, as were both genal spines! And, remember, this is a CAMBRIAN trilobite, not Devonian like most spiny Moroccan trilobites. This is one of the few REAL Kingaspis trilobites you will see. It is one of the rarer and more collectible trilobites found in Morocco.
