This is an excellent fossil feather from the Eocene of Utah. Bird remains are quite rare in the fossil record - even solitary feathers are very uncommon. This large feather exhibits extraordinary detail - the individual barbs are very apparent. The fossil has excellent dark-brown color and contrasts beautifully with the khaki-colored matrix. The feather is almost perfectly centered on the natural plate of shale. This is a wonderful specimen of an extremely scarce fossil feather from the Green River Formation.
