This is a very fine fossil feather from the Oligocene of France. Bird remains are quite rare in the fossil record - even solitary feathers are very uncommon. This location is well known for the fossil fish that are found there, but feathers are almost unheard of from this site. This feather exhibits nice detail - the many individual barbs are easily seen. The fossil has great color and contrast and is well presented on the natural plate of shale. This is a very good fossil feather from an extremely unusual location.
