Complete Cave Bear Skull with Lower Jaws Intact

Age:  Pleistocene
Formation:  Cave Deposits
Location:  Carpath Mountains, Romania
Size: Skull and jaws are over 17 inches long!
Price: SOLD

Specimen SS117

This is an extremely displayable vertebrate fossil. It is a complete skull and lower jaws from the extinct Ice Age Cave Bear, Ursus spelaeus. Cave Bears were the largest member of the Bear family and the chief animal hunted by Neanderthal Man. Cave Bear material is getting harder to find - most of the caves have been discovered and heavily collected. This adult skull is very large (over 17 inches long!) and beautifully articulated. The jaws have the many large teeth intact and well displayed. The mouth-open, ''roaring'' pose is both awesome and quite impressive. A specimen like this could be the centerpiece of any fossil collection, or showcased in one's home or office. It would be hard to find a more impressive display fossil, especially for the price.
