This is a large specimen of Astronium truncatum, a tropical flower from the Green River Formation. Flowers are extremely rare in the fossil record, due to their delicate nature. This specimen displays all five petals in the "umbrella" position. The fossil has good color and contrast. It is nicely positioned on the natural plate of shale. This is a very displayable specimen of a rare fossil flower from the Eocene of Utah.
