Due to their delicate nature, flowers are very rare in the fossil record. Here is a striking example of a fossil flower from the Green River Formation of Utah. This flower is beautifully preserved in lateral view. The petals of the flower are quite distinct, and the long petiole is still tightly attached to the flower, which is very unusual. The fossil has great, natural color and contrast and is nicely presented on the large, rectangular plate of shale. This is a wonderful specimen of a rare and delicate fossil.
